I work with Children and Adolescents who are having a difficult time
I seek to bring about symptom relief by helping the child or young person to make sense of their experiences and feelings.
How I Do It
I do this by providing a consistent and safe environment in my consulting room where the child or young person can let their guard down sufficiently to explore their thoughts and feelings relating to aspects of life they might be struggling to understand.
It is hoped that through developing a thoughtful therapeutic relationship and by being understood, they will find new and healthier ways of managing their difficulties.
I use my psychodynamic understanding of child development to explore with the child, through play material, and through talking with the young person, what might be causing their emotional distress.
Issues That I Work With Include
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
- Attachment difficulties
- Difficulties in relationship with peers
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Behaviour and conduct disorders
- Trauma
- Developmental trauma (including issues relating to adoption)
I also work with parents in one-to-one sessions.
